Our Team

We are dedicated to our patients, our community, and the first responders who are the front line in keeping us safe. It is our goal to provide insight into potentially life-saving measures to improve mental health and suicide prevention through the SPOT the Signs program.

    Stephen M. Scheinthal, D.O., F.A.C.N., D.F.A.P.A.

    Dr. Stephen Scheinthal is an AOA board certified psychiatrist with subspecialty certification in geriatric psychiatry. He is Professor of Psychiatry and Chair of the Rowan-Virtua School of Osteopathic Medicine Department of Psychiatry and serves as the Chief of Psychiatry for Jefferson Health New Jersey. He is a Distinguished Fellow of both the American College of Osteopathic Neurologists and Psychiatrists and the American Psychiatric Association.

    Dr. Scheinthal is a graduate of UMDNJ-SOM, where he completed his internship, psychiatry residency, and geriatric psychiatry fellowship. He is a recipient of a Geriatric Academic Career Award from the US Department of Health and Human Services/Health Resources and Services Administration.

    Dr. Scheinthal is Past President of the American College of Osteopathic Neurologists and Psychiatrists, and the Past Chair of the Bureau of Osteopathic Specialists of the American Osteopathic Association. He has also held leadership positions in several other national professional organizations related to medical education and postgraduate medical training. Dr. Scheinthal is President of the New Jersey Association of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons.

    Alexus Weatherspoon, MHAT Coordinator/Instructor

    Alexus Weatherspoon is the Certified Instructor for SPOT the Signs and Mental Health First Aid Program. Alexus is a graduate of Rowan University and has a bachelor's degree in Nutrition/Health and Exercise Science. She previously worked as a Lead Medical Assistant at Rowan Medicine Psychiatry and was recently promoted to Coordinator of Mental Health First Aid and SPOT the Signs program.

    Mia Cortez is a social worker who strives daily to ensure that her clients receive the best possible care. She is passionate about mental health and dedicated to spreading awareness while sharing her skills and knowledge with the wider community.

    Amy Palen is a grants specialist and grant writer at Rowan-Virtua SOM. She provides administrative support for SPOT the Signs and other grant-funded programs at Rowan Medicine. Amy is a graduate of Fordham University.
